Vision Statement:
- To retain and enhance the forest in all its manifestations. To protect the salt marsh and First Nations midden.
- To recognize the changing character of the forest and allow the natural ecological processes to work.
- To eliminate non-native invasive species within the Park.
- To recognize the unique nature of this forest as it ages with the resultant increase in biodiversity.
- To recognize that this park is surrounded by urban development and that it provides passive recreation for the surrounding neighbourhood and its community of friends throughout the Comox Valley.
- To recognize the role of nature park that Macdonald Wood plays as part of the Comox Park system.
- To incorporate the management of Macdonald Wood with adjacent properties such as the Mack Laing and Stubbs property.
- To minimize safety hazards, recognizing that there are hazards in forest parks which must be accepted by the public using these areas.
- To recognize and honour the human history of the site, the long-term history, especially First Nations, and the recent history of community activism and paipation to save this site from development.
The purposes of this non-profit Society are:
a. To act as stewards of the property commonly known as Macdonald Wood in the Town of Comox described as Lot 20, District Lot 87, Comox District, Plan 2657, except part in Plan 3179.
b. To be responsible owners of the Fran Johnson Wildlife Sanctuary. To preserve lands, vegetation and habitats ensuring the covenants registered on the title are upheld. Located in the CVRD described as Lot 22, Plan 2657, District Lot 87, Land District 15, Except Plan
PCL A DD 18916N PT Lot 22 Lying N of PL 5689.
c. To receive bequests and future acquisitions going towards habitat preservation within the Town of Comox, City of Courtenay and the CVRD. To raise funds, as necessary, for future acquisitions and to support current projects, and to cooperate with other
organizations having similar aims.
d. To ensure covenants associated with the properties are honoured.
e. To ensure the lands remain in the public domain for the benefit of the citizens of the
Comox Valley, the environment, flora, fauna and wildlife.
f. And generally to do such things as are considered necessary for the attainment of the
above purposes.
